My apologies for my lack of postings as of late! I've been seeing quite a bit of live music lately!
On Saturday, January 20th, Amber and I went to see the Subdudes, at Irving Plaza. The Subdudes are "originators of a gumbo of roots music that melds soul music, gospel music, Louisiana music, blues and good old rock!" (I borrowed that line from their website because its worded much better than I would have said it myself! They are five men in their 50's and 60's from New Orleans. They put on a great show! It was my first time at Irving Plaza and I have to say--the place was really full of some good, positive energy! One of the highlights of the show was when the band played "unplugged," in the middle of the audience. They unplugged their instruments and played totally acoustically. How cool is that?
This past Wednesday, I went to see two great bands play at Warsaw, in Brooklyn. Essex Green is a Brooklyn-based band thats play pop, reminiscent of the 60s. Camera Obscura is a band from Scotland that plays music with a mellow vibe which sorta reminded me of Jenny Lewis. The venue in itself was pretty cool. Warsaw in a live music venue inside of Brooklyn's Polish National Home. The place was crawling with hipsters!
